Angela McLernon OBE
Angela has been Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nurses and Midwives (NIPEC) since 2014. With a strong public health and community nursing background, Angela joined the Department of Health (DoH), in 2006 as Nursing Officer with lead responsibility for nursing relating to Community and Primary Care, Public Health, Child Health, Safeguarding and Nurse Prescribing. From June 2011 to April 2013, Angela was the DoH Interim Chief Nursing Officer, during which time she was instrumental in securing Ministerial support for the introduction of the policy ‘Delivering Care’ to support safe levels of nurse staffing. She has also worked closely with the NMC and DoH to introduce revalidation for nurses and midwives and the Future Nurse, Future Midwife education standards into Northern Ireland.
Until December 2020 Angela was a Trustee of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. She has been a Fellow of the QNI since 2016 and was awarded the OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours for her services to nursing.
