In 2006 the DF was launched as an online resource at comprising the following sections: portfolio; competence assessment tools; learning activities; career planning and development and new roles guide and audit tool.

NIPEC's Business Team proposed the need to review the Development Framework website in order to ensure it continues to be fit for purpose to support the professional development of nurses and midwives. It is important that with the current focus on regulation and governance requirements that it also meets employers' needs, where possible, and any future requirements of the regulatory body, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
