Phase one of the Leading Teams: Regional Team Leader Project was completed in June 2012. The aim of the project was to support and strengthen the role of the Team Leader, responsible for managing a uni-professional or a multi- professional team, and in so doing, provide support for front line staff.

As a result of this work, a range of tools and resources were developed to support the Team Leader's role and was launched by the Chief Nursing Officer (DHSSPS) at NIPEC's annual conference in October 2012. These products are available on NIPEC's website

Phase two of the Project commenced in January 2013 with the aim of supporting the implementation and evaluation of the Team Leader resources within each of the HSC Trusts. A Steering Group was established chaired by Brendan McGrath, Assistant Director of Nursing Western HSC Trust. Each of the other HSC Trusts was represented on the Group by an Assistant Director of Nursing. The membership also comprised representation from education providers, staff side and professional organisations.
