5th May 2021
NIPEC is delighted to celebrate this year’s International Day of the Midwife (IDM). The theme for this year is ‘Follow the Data, Invest in Midwives’.
We applaud midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives who have worked through many challenging situations during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide safe and effective women centred care for women, babies and their families across Northern Ireland. We also join midwives from around the world to reflect on the progress made by their profession.
This year’s theme is timely because the IDM will coincide with the launch of the 2021 State of the World’s Midwifery (SoWMy) Report which provides an updated evidence base and detailed analysis on the impact of midwives on maternal and newborn health outcomes and the return on investment in midwives.
