Supervision is one of the key components in the delivery of safe and effective care.
It is a process of professional support and learning – undertaken through a range of activities – which enables individual registrant nurses to develop knowledge and competence, assume responsibility for their own practice and enhance quality, safety and service-user protection (NIPEC 2007).
Two regional standards for the supervision of nurses were published and each Executive Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring that supervision is available for all nurses in their Trust.
