Accreditation for Prior (Experimental) Learning (AP(E)L) for Mentor Preparation Programmes

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards for Learning and Assessment in Practice require that all mentors who will be supervising and assessing students meeting NMC Standards.

The new NMC framework has been developed to ensure that students undertaking programmes are supported, supervised and assessed by practitioners with the necessary knowledge and competence.

Registrants whose names have not been entered on the local register of mentors can seek accreditation for previous learning and/or experience that would demonstrate they meet the mentor standards. Each of the 5 HSC Trusts have provided guidance on this process.
