Regional Ethnic Diversity Collaborative Workshop

NIPEC’s third Regional Ethnic Diversity Collaborative Workshop was held on 25 March 2026 at Stranmillis University College, bringing together colleagues from across health and social care, education and partner organisations.

The event focused on promoting ethnic diversity, inclusion and equal access to education and leadership opportunities, and provided valuable space for connection, shared learning and collaboration.

 

 

The workshop was Chaired by Beena Tharun, Co‑Chair of the NIPEC Ethnic Diversity Project Board. A keynote address was delivered by Jonah Atos, International Nurse Coordinator (WHSCT), who shared her personal career journey and highlighted the importance of leadership, resilience and community support. Delegates also welcomed an ad

 

dress from Health Minister Mike Nesbitt, who highlighted his 3-year strategic Northern Ireland HSC Reset Plan: Stabilise, Reform, Deliver and reinforced the importance of supporting the global majority workforce to be a part of the neighbourhood model of care.

A highlight of the day was a series of inspiring staff stories, with colleagues from nursing, midwifery, allied health professions and education sharing lived experiences of career progression in Northern Ireland. These sessions were widely described as powerful, motivational and inspirational.

Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the event as energising, inclusive and inspirational, and valuing the opportunity to network and share learning across the sector.
