Professional Nursing Officer
Mary joined NIPEC as a Professional Nursing Officer in May 2026.

Mary qualified as a Registered Nurse following completion of a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing at Queen’s University Belfast. She subsequently undertook a specialist course in Neonatal Studies and later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) at Ulster University.
Prior to joining NIPEC, Mary worked within neonatal intensive care and public health nursing services, caring for infants, children and families. During her neonatal nursing career, she contributed to quality improvement initiatives relating to the neurodevelopmental care of premature infants and served on the Neonatal Nurses Association Committee.
Mary also contributes to the work of the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV), where she co-chairs national networking events for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing students and early career health visitors. In recognition of her contribution to health visiting and leadership, she received a national award from the iHV in 2025.
Mary has a particular interest in improving outcomes for children, young people and families, supporting professional development and practice learning, and contributing to the development of the future nursing workforce.
