The Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC) was established by the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2002 under the Health and Personal Social Services Act as an NDPB (Non Departmental Public Body) with statutory duties to support the development of nurses and midwives by promoting high standards of practice, education and professional development. NIPEC also provides advice and guidance on best practice and matters relating to nursing and midwifery.
NIPEC’s vision is to lead and inspire nurses and midwives to achieve and uphold excellence in professional practice.
NIPEC is led by a Council which is comprised of a Chair, a Chief Executive and 12 non-executive members. Members are a combination of registrants and lay members. The Council has corporate responsibility for ensuring that NIPEC fulfils the aims and objectives set by the Department and approved by the Minister, and for promoting the efficient, economic and effective use of staff and other resources.
NIPEC staff are based in James House in Belfast.
