Council Membership
NIPEC is led by a Council which is comprised of a Chair, a Chief Executive and 12 non-executive members. Members are a combination of registrants and lay members.
Council Function
The Council has corporate responsibility for ensuring that NIPEC fulfils the aims and objectives set by the Department and approved by the Minister, and for promoting the efficient, economic and effective use of staff and other resources.

NIPEC has established three non-executive committees
Audit & Risk Committee
The Audit and Risk Committee is a statutory committee and its purpose is to provide assurance to the Council that NIPEC has an effective system of integrated governance, risk management and internal control, across the whole of the organisation’s activities that supports the achievement of the organisation’s objectives. Membership comprises a minimum of four non-executive Council members, two professional and two lay.
Remuneration Committee
The Remuneration Committee is a statutory committee established to advise the Council about appropriate remuneration and terms of service for NIPEC’s Chief Executive, who is currently the only member of NIPEC staff on a Senior Scale Executive Contract. The Committee comprises the Chair of the NIPEC Council who acts as Chair of the Committee and at least two other non-executive Council members, to include Professional and Lay representation.
Professional & Business Committee
During 2023-24, NIPEC established a third non-executive Council Committee, the Professional & Business Committee. The Committee report to Council on the setting and measurement of corporate objectives, development of the annual business plan and the annual professional work programme and strategy. Membership comprises five non-executive Council members, with the Chair being a lay member.

The NIPEC Council meet quarterly throughout the year, with various issues coming in front of the meeting.
