The New Roles Guide contains information that you may find helpful when taking on or developing a new role. NIPEC’s review of the literature highlighted that many new roles for registrants could be better developed to provide necessary support for the post holders. To help us further understand how new roles for nurses and midwives were developed in Northern Ireland, we commissioned the University of Ulster (2006) to carry out some research. The results of which showed that there were many examples of good practice when creating new roles, but a few areas still need some attention. These areas included having the proper equipment to do your job, secretarial support and support from your manager.
