Reflective Supervision Framework

In June 2020, an agreement was made by the Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Executive NIPEC, Executive Directors of Nursing, and other senior nursing and midwifery leaders in Northern Ireland to pilot test the Reflective Supervision Framework for nursing and midwifery.

NIPEC and the HSC Clinical Education Centre are currently working collaboratively to enable this small scale pilot to progress.

The purpose of the pilot is to determine the:

  1. Utility of the model
  2. Implications for associated resourcing required for effective implementation
  3. Utility of the Framework principles to the revised safeguarding child protection supervision policy

This pilot, which we hope to initiate during early December 2020, will enable the final production of the Reflective Supervision Framework for Nursing and Midwifery positioned under one policy directive in Northern Ireland and supports the production of recommendations for implementation to be offered. Set within the context of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the potential of a second surge, the pilot also aims to recognise the significant potential for robust supervision processes to assist in supporting the health and wellbeing of nursing and midwifery teams.
