NIPEC led the development of a career framework for Specialist Nurses, on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer, Charlotte McArdle. The Framework will inform and support workforce development for current and future Specialist Nursing roles to include succession planning and the development of educational requirements to meet patient/client needs. |
The Steering Group was chaired by Heather Monteverde, MBE. A number of sub groups were set up to develop all the elements of the Framework which included core generic competencies and a core Job Description for all Specialist Nurses and specific core competencies for the following:
- Diabetes Specialist Nurses , Adult (Chaired by Rose McHugh, Public Health Agency)
- Cancer Specialist Nurses (Chaired by Loretta Gribben, Public Health Agency)
- Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Childrens (Chaired by Rose McHugh, Public Health Agency)
- Palliative Care Specialist Nurses (Chaired by Loretta Gribben, Public Health Agency)
- Tissue Viability Specialist Nurses (Chaired by Roisin McSwiggan, Northern HSC Trust)
